Require authentication with an install and leave it alone after that. If you’re going to advertise a single player mode, you need to trust your players and grant true offline single player. These kinds of development decisions are, quite frankly, insulting, and need to stop. Most of my devices are connected and I don’t generally have an issue however, if work requires me to travel and I want to bring my laptop, I will now need to make special considerations and be aware of a ticking clock with my D2R client in order to keep single player accessible. If you don’t sign on for 30 days, the game will throw you an error and tell you that you have to sign into BNet to play in case of “Terms of Agreement changes,” which is a BS way of Blizzard trying to make sure people aren’t playing on a cracked copy.
Blizzard is so paranoid over DRM, they won’t trust their players with a license to play the game truly offline without requiring a sign-in to BNet. Once again, we’ve been bamboozled, and I predicted this would happen.
